This program provides financial support to families to cover additional costs in caring for a child with a disability.

Eligible families may receive between $25.00 and $500.00 a month to help with disability-related costs.

ACSD can be used to reimburse costs such as:

• travel to doctors’ appointments, hospitals and other appointments related to the child’s disability
• special clothing and shoes
• parental relief such as respite
• assessment for assistive devices under the Assistive Devices Program
• batteries and repairs for mobility devices
• prescription drugs through OHIP+
• dental care through Healthy Smiles Ontario Program.

Due to COVID-19, ACSD has temporarily expanded the list of eligible expenses. New eligible expenses include:

• sensory items
• technology
• items to support home-based recreation and fitness
• personal protective equipment and supplies
• essential service delivery fees
• behaviour support plans and related interventions.

To be eligible, your child must be 17 years of age and younger, live at home and have a disability.

Eligibility for ACSD, and the amount of assistance you receive is based on a combination of factors:

• your household income
• size of your family
• severity of your child’s disability
• extraordinary costs related to your child’s disability.

To apply:

1. download a copy of the application form by clicking the button to the right, “blank application”
2. complete the application form and return it to your local regional office with any supplementary documentation

• medical documentation from a physician or psychologist
• previous year’s Income Tax Notice of Assessment
• Birth Certificate or documentation of immigration
• Health Card
• your most recent Canada Child Benefit Notice (CCB).

Once the application is received, a Special Agreements Officer will review your application and contact you if more information is required. You will then receive a letter stating whether or not you qualify for the grant.

How can I attend a Funding Information Session?
To attend a funding information session you must be receiving services from Kids Pathways Peel (KPP) or Peel Inclusion Resource Services (PIRS). Find our next funding session by visiting our calendar of events here.

How can I find a special services worker or support worker?

1. Consider your natural supports. Do you have anyone who is currently supporting you in caring for your child? SSAH can be used to pay for the services of friends, neighbours, extended family members and school support staff

2. Private Respite Providers. CDRCP hosts a free database of qualified, experienced Providers looking to support families in their area. Families and Providers arrange fees, scheduling and support needs

3. Community Agency Respite. SSAH can be used to offset the costs of support provided through community agencies such as respite, social groups and camp
