Caregiver Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI)
This 2.5-hour workshop is designed for parents and caregivers of Autistic children of all ages who want to learn non-physical, supportive intervention strategies to increase safety and reduce risk of harm. Adapted from the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® (NVCI) training program offered through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), this session will help participants recognize and respond early to signs of anxiety and/or distress, implement supportive verbal and non-verbal communication techniques and appropriate de-escalation strategies, and manage their emotional responses during challenging situations.
Please note that Caregiver NVCI is exclusively available to parents and caregivers eligible for Kerry’s Place Autism Services. By registering for this event, you are consenting to your contact information (first and last name, e-mail address) to be shared with the Crisis Prevention Institute. Participants will not receive a certificate of completion or NVCI certification.
As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:
- describe how to respond to various levels of crisis behaviours
 - recognize the importance of responding to crisis situations in a calm manner in order to influence a positive outcome
 - describe the decision-making-matrix when assessing risk behaviour
 - apply a framework to help guide caregivers and the individuals in distress through a process of re-establishing the relationship
