Caregiver Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) – Foundational Family Services
This workshop is intended for family members and caregivers who would like to enhance their skills in managing crisis situations, and learn about de-escalation techniques. Participants will be provided with an overview of the verbal and non-verbal communication concepts and strategies taught in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® (NVCI) training program that can help in the support and care of family members, or people they support, with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), both at home and in the community.
Please note that participants will not receive a certificate of completion, or become NVCI certified.
As a result of participating in this workshop, participants will be able to:
- describe how to respond to various levels of crisis behaviours
- recognize the importance of responding to crisis situations in a calm manner in order to influence a positive outcome
- describe the decision-making-matrix when assessing risk behaviour
- apply a framework to help guide caregivers and the individuals in distress through a process of re-establishing the relationship
